Fat Biking Fun In Vermont

We are excited to announce that more ski resorts in Vermont are now opening up to the use of fat bikes for their guests! What are fat bikes you may ask? They are like a traditional bike except their tires are extra-wide, generally from 4" to 6" and are equipped to run over snow, sand, mud or other terrain that generally would cause them to sink. Fat biking in snow each winter is growing in popularity and we can see why! For those who aren't comfortable on skis or a snowboard, now many resorts around Vermont are opening up their trails to fat bikers.

Locally here in Woodstock, The Woodstock Inn's Nordic Center has recently begun to amp up it's fat biking scene for guests. "This season will see a reprise of the “Fat Tuesday” night rides—group rides for all abilities, featuring head lamps and a casual dinner after— and Fatstock, formerly a race, will be a full-on festival this season, held on Feb. 25.  Nordic Center director, Nick Mahood is also excited about plans to groom three or four of the Center’s 8 miles of singletrack for fat biking  this winter and to build out mountain bike trails on nearby Suicide Six in time for the 2018 summer season (Vtsports.com)."

Our two bedroom/2 bath log cabin is equipped with microwave, refrigerator, stove, outdoor barbecue grill, washer, dryer, DirecTV/VCR/DVD, dishes, linens, jetted bathtub, wood stoves (in addition to a furnace) and all the comforts required for an enjoyable stay. Leave No Trace Cabin has wireless internet capability for those who can’t quite disconnect themselves from the electronic age! Having internet on a back road in VT is unusual so don’t expect the same speed you have in the cities – streaming videos will not be feasible.  Since cellphone service is almost nonexistent, a landline is provided for your phone calls.

There is a full basement with outside entrance – unfinished but bright with a wood stove where more can sleep in a camp environment. Leave No Trace is located on 10 acres of mostly wooded terrain with the small Densmore Brook running through the backyard such that you can hear it from the rocker on the porch. A large deck surrounds the back of the cabin. Down from the porch is a campfire site and nearby hangs a hammock between two shady trees. There is also a two stall run-in shed barn and a small wooded horse paddock for those visiting equines.

World Cup Skiing Coming to Vermont!

The snowmakers are all set in nearby town, Killington, for the start of the FIS Women’s Ski World Cup which begins in a few days. "Colder temperatures have allowed snowmaking to proceed in earnest, which is well-timed because the Women’s World Cup opens at Killington in a matter of days. Snowmakers from around the state are offering their assistance and expertise to ensure the course is ready for the high-profile ski event."  While Leave No Trace is already booked for the cup weekend, there are still plenty of exciting things happening this winter (including the Wassail Weekend!) for visitors to come enjoy. Vermont is known for its small country roads dotted with covered bridges and quaint country stores. Quiet walks on the numerous back road trails are especially relaxing. Leave No Trace is located on one of these unpaved (yet plowed in the Winter) roads, nestled between an herb and sheep farm on one side and a horse farm on the other. The area is excellent for hiking, biking, horseback riding (near GMHA), 3 ski areas nearby (both alpine and cross-country), sledding, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. There is also an indoor ice rink in the town of Woodstock nearby.There are so many sights of interest close at hand that you will find yourself planning another trip back to Vermont to see more.
